Just a Post on Human Trafficking

Human trafficking occurs when humans are used for the purpose of forced labor, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker. It may include providing a partner in the context of forced marriage, or the extraction of organs or tissues, including for surrogacy and evisceration. Human trafficking is considered as a crime against the person amply due to the violation of the victim's freedom of movement through coercion or because of commercial exploitation.

Although human trafficking may vary from different areas, it almost always targets and tries to exploit vulnerable situations. Persons that seem to be vulnerable can easily fall prey to human traffickers. We see these in multiple different circumstances. One of the root causes of human trafficking is political instability, or amply poor political conditions, which may lead to a country having civil unrest, militarism, and an image of it as constantly having generalized violence. These situations increase the chances in which populations destabilize and scatter which in turn increase their vulnerability to unfair treatment and abuse via trafficking and forced labor. Political instability also often translates to poor economic growth which may invariably cause people to commit actions that are deemed to be unlawful in order to place themselves in a better economic status.

Watching the video was very powerful and moving, as well as a bit scary. One could not imagine what that woman went through or how she felt. The sad part is that many of the victims of human trafficking are not saved and are lost and taken from their families forever. Based on the video, one could conclude that potential victims of human trafficking are young persons (particularly women) that are financially unstable or cannot find a place in life for the moment. Some could be looking for love, a new life, a different country, and could potentially be victims of human trafficking. The good thing is that the government is actually trying to stop this vile crime that has been going on for a substantial amount of time. Just by simply knowing and contacting the DSWD hotline to report to the officials one could save a life from going astray. This video also helped me understand that one could help eradicate human trafficking by being an active member of society, such as knowing the authorities near you and being responsive to others that are being abused and reporting what you witnessed to the authorities. The video was overall one that will help me view people and their situations in a different perspective, and how to act accordingly so as to aid them in their struggles.
